The grain of wood varies from pen to pen so keep that in mind when ordering. You are guaranteed to get a pen with the exact wood you choose but the design will vary.
Deep reds, browns, blacks and occasional violets penetrate through this exotic hardwood. Similar to Cocobolo, another name for Granadillo is Mexican Rosewood, though Granadillo is easier to work and glues much more readily. It is dense and straight with a closed grain structure. Although not a true Rosewood, it is commonly used by many in South America for instrument building under the name Macacauba
In South America, it is highly regarded as the best tonewood choice for marimba and xylophone bones and is often referenced as “La Madera Que Canta” (“wood that sings”). Granadillo has been said to have a ringing, bright tap tone and is gaining popularity amongst American instrument makers.
